    Discover Lamjung and its enthralling Mad Honey Hunting Tradition;

    Lamjung region has been home to the Gurung community for generations who have preserved and practiced mad honey hunting as a tradition. These wild bees are revered as creatures, by their ancestors. Lamjung is renowned for its rich culture, hospitality, mesmerizing natural beauty, and flora that includes rhododendrons and azaleas which produce mad honey containing grayanotoxins.

    The process of wild honey hunting starts with locating the bee’s nest, which is often done by following the buzzing sound of the bees. Once the nest is located, a group of hunters will climb up the cliff using bamboo ladders, ropes, and hooks to access the hive. The hunters use traditional smoking methods to calm the bees before they start extracting the honeycombs.

    Honey hunting is not only a source of revenue for many people in Nepal’s mountainous regions, but it is also an essential part of their traditions and culture. Honey is considered to have medicinal properties and is utilized in a variety of religious rituals.
